Girl your hair looks healthy but it looks like it could use a break from all the straighten. You should try going natural. It is easy and better for your hair. Oh girl no! I could never go natural. Well why not? I don’t have the time or money and my hair is not manageable in its natural state. This is basic conversation with someone who is foreign and do not know their own hair. Natural hair is capable of many things but it has to be taken care of properly. It may seem like a lot of work in the beginning but the end result for your hair is worth it. Going natural is a healthy and vital process in keeping your hair alive and strong. The first thing people think of when they mention going natural is how going natural takes too much time and straighten is more convenient. I know because this was once me. I enjoyed the convenience of just having to wrap my hair at night and comb it down in the mornings and go. But when you learn your hair and what works for you and what doesn’t then the process becomes easier and less time consuming.
Going natural is a process that in the beginning takes time to adjust to. You first have to educate yourself on your hair, on what type of texture and grade it is. Then you should switch up your hair products that are for natural hair specifically. After that just kick back and watch how your hair becomes healthier and stronger. With natural hair you have to have patience and this is important when entering this process. After a while you will see just how manageable your hair is. When going natural, you have to basically re-train your hair so that it is attainable in this state. To help with this you have to find the right hair products that work you and your type of hair because there are many different types of natural hair and I go more into depth about the different hair care products on the page titled hair care.
Another concern some women encounter within the process is feeling beautiful with their natural hair. Because natural has always been viewed as unacceptable and not pretty, we have found ways to manipulate our hair and make it so that it looks more like what the media says beauty is. Some people think that our natural hair is inappropriate and unprofessional, but their many working women in corporate America rocking their fro’s. When going through this process it is important that you define what beauty is to you and not by others standards. When you think about it, hair is hair. Natural hair is beautiful because, “it is blackness personified before manipulation”. It does take courage and confidence to let people see the real you, but in the end as black women, we must learn of all the types of beauty and that our hair is one of them. Embrace your true you, naturally.
