The social problem I plan to address is the idea of beauty, natural beauty; in particular natural hair. There are so many young ladies that think that because their hair isn’t straightened they aren’t beautiful. Or, the fact that natural hair isn’t pretty. My website will address these issues that continuously affect the black community and show different ways of wearing ones natural hair. This is a very current issue because the “natural” look is slowly but surely coming back and gracing America with its variety. Being that the main audience is black women with natural hair, this site is meant to encourage and provide support for ladies rocking the fro. This website is to inform people about natural beauty and embracing who you are naturally, stripped down from all the things that we have created to cover up who me are.
My goal for this website is to make people more informed of natural hair and its beauty. Also to clear up some stereotypes that have been placed on natural hair and reform some of the terms we use to describe hair in general. The way I will achieve these goals are by posting pictures of natural hair, quoting professionals on the topic, posting articles, and providing/linking different hair care websites.
As said, this site is specifically for black women learning or struggling with embracing themselves in their natural state but it is also for everyone. These are women who are in transition of becoming natural and are still having some insecurity with the thought of not having their hair straightened. This website is meant to empower and transcend confidence within women who are willing to take a look into who they really are and embrace it. Some objections that could be raised are how natural hair isn’t manageable, its least accepted, or how it’s not as cost effective, but with the vast amount of information and sources provided, this site can be helpful to all.
